East Bay Residence • Excellence in Remodeling • Whole House

Originally built in 1870, this Osterville abode was suffering from significant disrepair prior to recent renovations. The project, a collaboration with architect Patrick Ahearn, developed into a major undertaking that included additions to the original cottage, construction of a new carriage house and pool cabana, a putting green, and a new landscape program. One of the biggest challenges the house presented was that it lacked a formal front façade. The team redeveloped the site to create a romantic, circular arrival sequence—defined by an allee of trees and a new formal entrance.

Working alongside landscape architect Bernice Wahler, the team at Jaxtimer transformed the dated outdoor living space of this grand Mediterranean oasis along Nantucket Sound into a luxurious haven. A renovated pool area, originally built in the 1990s, features a new 20’ by 60’ saltwater pool and 14’ by 14’ infinity spa. To take full advantage of the 270-degree waterfront views, the entire backyard was re-graded, lowering the elevation of the pool by 16 inches. Jaxtimer replaced the extensive, uneven brick paving of the patio and pool terrace with modern buff-colored stone paving, accented in different finishes to add interest.

In renovating this now Jay Gatsby-esque estate, Jaxtimer and architect Patrick Ahearn worked to preserve the integrity of the original, historic home while reimagining it for the 21st century. “The goal,” says Ahearn, “was to create a grand summer cottage that could have been designed in the 1920s in New England.” The team reconfigured the interior, orienting living spaces to take advantage of the beautiful seaside vistas and expanding the footprint to accommodate a large family and summer guests. Outside, there are now five outdoor living spaces to enjoy, including a pool area and a private terrace off the master suite.

 Seaview Secret Garden • Excellence in Landscape/Garden Design

This Osterville memorial garden, honoring the homeowners’ late mothers, is a hidden woodland retreat set across the street from their seaside home. The team at Jaxtimer, in collaboration again with landscape architect Bernice Wahler, achieved the homeowners’ vision of a timeless, rustic outdoor space by using aged natural materials, including reclaimed brick and weathered stone. A formal dipping spa and fountain serve as focal points amidst the topiary and the flora of the parterre gardens. The bluestone terrace was designed for outdoor entertaining, allowing for a larger gathering space, and Jaxtimer transformed the garage into a personal gym.
