If David Newton ever questioned his innate love for building beautiful homes from start to finish, being a father nailed down how great it is to visualize a house and then construct it with fine attention to detail.

Newton says watching his son Ryan, 28, a company vice president, brings home the joy of building exceptional homes. “It’s in Ryan’s DNA,” says Newton, explaining that Ryan is the fourth generation to be a leader in the family company, which started on the Cape in 1958. “It’s just great knowing how much he enjoys what he does.”

C.H. Newton has expanded considerably since the days when David’s grandfather started the business building homes known for exquisite craftsmanship. Today, there are offices in Osterville, Falmouth,  Newport, RI, and a recently opened location in Wellesley Hills. The company provides experienced renovation of historic structures, in-house customized millwork, and full estate care services.

Newton traces the firm’s expansion to estate services for Cape clients, which has generated considerable year-round construction projects over the bridge. For many customers, once a home has been completed, C.H. Newton maintains the property providing 24-hour services. “Through our estate care services, we have become very close to customers, leading to several clients asking us to build year-round homes off-Cape,” says Newton.

When he is asked why his company has been able to flourish in an industry that has seen its ups and downs, Newton points to the excellence of the firm’s 65 employees, 40 of whom work full-time. “Starting with our great president, Brian Lafauce, through a staff that are tops in their field—we have always had a culture of excellence and a commitment to team work here,” says Newton. “These people are the reason we have been successful for so long.”

Newton says that growing up in the business has provided him with a unique ability to visualize each house in three dimensions, even when the structure is little more than a sketch, a talent he has passed on to Ryan. “He’s just a natural,” says this proud father, underscoring the fact that this building industry pillar should remain in excellent standing for generations to come.
