In 2016 we are revisiting some of the homes featured in Cape Cod HOME’s first issue in 1996.

Cape Cod HOME 1996 | capecodlife.comThis residence in North Falmouth’s picturesque Ballymeade Estates was featured on the cover of Cape Cod HOME’s inaugural issue in 1996. Though architecturally the 3,500-square-foot home has remained largely the same over the years, some significant changes have been made to the interior, including a complete remodel of the master bathroom and the installation of a new roof and darker, hardwood floors throughout. Another change? Since September of 2014, the owners of the home are Bruce and Lisa Wilby. The couple’s yellow Labrador, Rose, poses in the photo above.

When the Wilbys arrived, they decided to revamp the home’s small, country-style kitchen. They expanded the room by knocking down the wall to an adjoining sunroom to create one larger space—with room enough for a large kitchen island and many chairs. They also installed floor-to-ceiling windows to further take advantage of the view looking out over Buzzards Bay. “When you’re in the kitchen you feel like you’re outside, next to the pool,” Bruce Wilby says. “Whenever people are over, we’re sitting in the kitchen if we’re not outside.”

The original architect on the home, William Lee of Duxbury, later designed a home in Cataumet for Cape Cod Life Publications founder, Brian Shortsleeve. The general contractor on that project, Sean Brock of North Falmouth, has been working with the Wilbys on some of the remodeling work described above.  ~ Haley Cote
