Architect Rob Bramhall, AIA, believes that the architectural synergy between architect, client, and location is key to the success of every project.

“If we get a client who loves architecture, understands how it can make a difference in their lives, and enjoys the process of creating a unique home, that’s great,” says Bramhall, founder and principal of the Andover-based Rob Bramhall Architects. “For me as an architect, the important thing is to listen to the client and take the time to do each project right.”

Bramhall, a native of Concord, MA., started his firm in 1991, after work-ing in the corporate design industry in Boston for years. The company focuses on high-end residential homes, both new and remodels, and  Bramhall says he enjoys the scale and intimacy of residential work as opposed to large corporate projects. “These projects are just more hands-on,” he says.

When it comes to his firm’s work, Bramhall explains that his designs reflect a consistency of quality, rather than evoking a particular style. “Our work is diversified enough that we don’t need a certain style,” he explains. “However, our work does reflect a level of refinement and a sensitivity to the environment.

“I work with each site and what is around it depending on its location,” Bramhall says of his design approach. The architect notes that his projects cover a wide geographic area from Maine to Cape Cod, down to South Carolina, and in Montana, where he lived for six years while studying to become an architect.

“All these homes have quite different architectural styles reflecting their surroundings. The Cape, in particular, has a lot of inherent scale, and a great architectural legacy. We really are reacting to those considerations—and the wishes of the client—rather than trying to adhere to any specific design,” Bramhall says.
