Collected Christmas

The small and unassuming exterior might lead one to think that the Samuel Fessenden House is just another historical home. But once inside the circa 1840 house on Main Street in Sandwich, a treasure trove of antiques and wonderful collections abound—and come Christmas, those treasures are on full display.

Beth Friend and local author Jim Coogan purchased the home, which measures less than 1,000 square feet, six years ago and have been filling it with wonderful finds ever since. “I began collecting around the time we moved into the house,” says Beth, who is the president of the board at the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Cape Cod Community College. She also teaches American folk art in the program—her personal collections of primitive pieces and folk art finds are woven into her curriculum. And Beth loves to work with her collections to decorate the cozy rooms of her home for Christmas.
