Festive Family Room

Lee Repetto, owner of The Spotted Cod, a home accessories shop in Sandwich village, was excited to work alongside Ellen in the home’s family room and kitchen. “Ellen had new blue and white sofas delivered, so we wanted to play off the blue, while incorporating elements of traditional red and green,” says Repetto. “Ellen has great taste and has a wonderful mix of antiques and new pieces in the house.” Repetto enjoys layering everyday and unusual items into her holiday designs. To accessorize the space, Repetto brought in red lanterns, a primitive dough bowl, antique red and white quilts, miniature sleds, watering cans, and iron stoneware creating a traditional scene. “We played off of Ellen’s own tree and ornaments in the decorations when embellishing the rooms,” she says.
For the kitchen place settings, Repetto layered linens and dishware, mixing and matching plates and bowls to add texture to the setting. An old cupboard in the kitchen is filled with traditional holiday foods; fruitcake, biscuits, jellies, jams, and chutneys from The Brown Jug shop in Sandwich add holiday fare to the mix. Repetto says floral designer Carole MacKay of Seaside Pleasures helped create arrangements throughout the space. “You really don’t have to spend any money when it comes to holiday greens—you can literally walk out into your backyard and start clipping,” she says. “We have so much holly and evergreens here on the Cape. It’s wonderful to incorporate those indigenous materials into your Cape Christmas.”
