Spa Time Located in the historic White Elephant inn overlooking Nantucket Harbor, this high-profile island spa features body treatments that combine science and nature. Here, wintertime is actually a plus, when you start your treatment in the spa’s Serenity room next to the fireplace, tea in hand. Among the spa’s signature treatments are massage, which can invigorate (Uplifting Renewal Massage) or soothe (Anti-Stress Massage) and facials, including the Nature’s Firming Facial, which treats the face with sun-dried sea algae to purify and firm. And then there are the signature bodywork sessions such as the Detoxifying Body Massage and Algae Wrap.

For a perfect winter prescription, Kelly Flynn, spa manager, recommends the Main Street Massage/Hot Stone, a 90-minute dip into pure luxury ($225). Warm basalt rocks create deep relaxation and help remove cellular waste. “The hot stone massage is one of the best ways to achieve a deeper massage, with the therapist placing the hot stones on the body and massaging the body with the stones in hand,” Flynn says. “Warm stones are soothing as well as comforting, with the heat and weight of the stones giving deep muscle relaxation.”
