Spa Time

Step into the interior of Newbury Street South Salon & Spa and feel yourself spirited from the day’s cares. Washed in shades of seafoam green, plum, and dreamy light blue, the spa’s palette was consciously chosen, says owner Michele Drew. “It’s like bringing the outside colors in,” she says. Skin takes center stage at this year-round spa, which features facials, massage, waxing, and natural nail care. Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products, which blend modern science with homeopathic treatments and other natural therapies, garner much respect here; the salon staff includes two Dr. Hauschka certified aestheticians, Lisa Eldredge and Katie Eaton.

For winter-tired skin, Drew and Manager Denise Parent recommend the Dr. Hauschka Rejuvenating Treatment ($90). The 90-minute session involves the entire body, beginning with a warm sage footbath. Following is a luxurious facial, which includes a clay mask, massage stimulation of the lymph system, and treatment of the décolleté, neck, and hands. The effect is profound peace and serenity. In fact, Parent sees evidence of the highest compliment that could be given a massage therapist: sleeping clients. “We have people fall asleep during the facials all the time,” she says. Parent says the treatment would be ideal for people who work hard through the area’s high season. “It would be a great treatment, to relax and treat themselves after a long, hard season.”
