When a client consults with Cape Cod furniture maker Dick Kiusalas, everything is on the table. Freeform, structured, conceptual, artistic—Kiusalas has rendered these and almost every other style imaginable in his 40 years of business.
When Kiusalas founded West Barnstable Tables in 1970 with Steve Whittlesey, the artisans focused on handmade furniture with an easy-living style. They quickly built a reputation as magicians who transformed salvaged wood into beautiful, character-laden tables. Kiusalas, now sole owner of the business, still works where he and Whittlesey began: in an old barn and companion building in West Barnstable where A.D. Makepeace sorted cranberries at the turn of the 20th century.
