Steve and Todd Jones fondly remember growing up in Centerville. But more than Four Seas Ice Cream, they fondly remember the adventure—loading up their Boston Whaler and tearing out for the Vineyard. “We’d stop halfway, take a swim,” Todd says. “You know, load up the cooler, grab your friends, follow the compass heading on 240’. Even today, when I visit, I don’t take [Route] 28. I go on back roads so I can drive by Craigville Beach. That’s where it really started for us. That spirit of exploration.”
In 1995, the Jones brothers co-founded Teton Gravity Research (TGR), an action sports film company that has more recently become one of the fastest-growing brands in the industry.
It started there, and it brought the brothers to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the ski terrain—deep powder, trees, chutes, couloirs, and cliff jumping—is arguably America’s most extreme. In 1995, the Jones brothers co-founded Teton Gravity Research (TGR), an action-sports film company that has more recently become one of the fastest-growing brands in the industry. Thus far, the company has produced nearly 30 award-winning feature-length films; numerous television series for Showtime, NBC, Fox Sports, and Fuel TV; and is known for its cutting-edge media. TGR films showcase the world’s top snowboard, ski, and surf athletes including Jeremy Jones, Ian Walsh, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, and Seth Morrison. The Jones brothers grew up skateboarding, biking, skiing—anything for a thrill. In the early 1990s, their love of action sports propelled them out west. Steve moved in the fall of 1989 to take a course with the National Outdoor Leadership School in the Rocky Mountains; shortly after, he and Todd both enrolled in the University of Montana to stay near the mountains.
