Things To Do
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is the largest private, nonprofit marine research and higher education organization in the U.S. Visit the Ocean Science Exhibit Center to learn about the institution’s ocean science research, sit in on a Friday lunchtime talk through the institute’s “Peanut Butter Club,” and take free guided tours through the WHOI dock area and other restricted facilities during the summer.

Biking, running, walking, and roller blading on the Shining Sea bike path are incredibly popular among visitors and locals in Falmouth. The path runs 10.7 miles from Woods Hole to North Falmouth, through salt marshes, cranberry bogs, and farmland. You can also enjoy stunning views of Vineyard Sound along Surf Drive for nearly a mile.
Beach It!
Old Silver Beach in North Falmouth has just about everything a beachgoer could want: a long crescent of white sand, warm water with a sandy bottom, a concession stand, bathroom facilities, plenty of parking, and beautiful sunsets. The water stays shallow for a good stretch—a perfect playground for children to explore the tide pools that often collect lots of crabs and minnows.
