Point of Interest
Shellfishing is a classic activity on the Outer Cape, and Salt Pond in Eastham is the perfect place to dig in. Quahogs, littlenecks, and steamers are transported to Salt Pond from Cape Cod Bay and are available for harvest. Permits are required and available at the Natural Resources office (508-240-5972) or through the mail. Eastham also has significant early-American roots as the site of the “first encounter” between the Pilgrims and Indians on First Encounter Beach, and three of the original Mayflower passengers are buried in the Old Cove Cemetery.
