When I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, I had a scholarship to attend law school at New York University—back in the early 1970s, there were these sorts of federal programs designed to assist women in their professional careers. The money was never distributed that year, but I found myself living in New York, and, of course, I was loving it. I got a job at a patent law firm on Park Avenue, and I realized that that wasn’t what I wanted to do—I just liked the idea of it. I met my husband there.
