Front Street Restaurant, Culinary Adventurers
Donna Aliperti: When my father was 30 years old, he decided to go into the restaurant business. He opened a pizzeria called Aliperti’s Pizzeria in Rahway, New Jersey. I remember going in there as a kid and standing on milk crates to try to help roll out the pizzas. He made his own french fries, and I put the potatoes in the machine. My school was just down the street, so I’d walk down after school, go to the restaurant, and stay there until 11 o’clock at night with my parents. That was my life from a very young age. People say, “How can you do this business? Working 12 hours a day, six days a week sounds so hard.” But it’s all I know.
