Planning the Perfect Wedding

Planning the perfect wedding on Cape Cod and the Islands have long been favorites with brides, offering incomparable scenic backdrops for ceremonies and receptions.

But planning a wedding can be a daunting task—especially in places surrounded by water. From booking a venue to making travel arrangements for guests, the list of what needs to be done can be endless. With the knowledge and expertise of Tasha Bracken, principal event producer at Simple Details Events in Newton, Massachusetts, every bride can have her dream wedding without the hassles and stress of handling the details.

Planning the Perfect Wedding

Bracken started Simple Details Events 11 years ago, focusing on wedding planning. “Prior to this, I was doing event planning for corporate clients and wanted to get into the more social side of event planning,” she says. The firm has since grown and diversified to cover a wide range of events with the overall goal of matching clients with the right team, providing all the elements needed for a great party.

Bracken grew up spending her summers in Brewster, where she gained an understanding of what makes the Cape and Islands such sought-after locations for destination weddings. “People who spend time here feel a real connection,” she says. “Maybe they spent their childhoods here, or the bridal couple met here when they were younger or on vacation. It became a special place for them.” Bracken chose to have her own wedding in Harwich.

The first things many of Bracken’s full-service clients come to her with are questions about a venue. Clients looking to marry on Cape Cod and the Islands usually want a destination on the beach or by the water, a cherished backdrop often impossible in city or suburban venues. “Not a lot of these clients are local, so they might not know the best resources or venues. They look to us to help them find what they’re looking for,” explains Bracken.

The next step is working with clients to put together what Bracken calls an action plan. This details everything that will happen during the planning process and establishes a timeline to keep everything on track, ensuring that all tasks are completed before the big day.

One thing Bracken cautions couples against is forgetting about guests. While the satisfaction of the bride and groom is most important, Bracken says to remember that guests are traveling—sometimes long distances—to enjoy the wedding as well. There are the usual details like finding comfortable lodging and selecting food and entertainment with broad appeal, but some of the logistics guests encounter might slip through the cracks.
