OUTER CAPE - Autumn Fairs, Festivals and Events…

Ripe with Activity

Truro Agricultural Fair  |  September 1

Longest cucumber, heaviest tomato, biggest squash—these are just some of the annual contests that bring Cape farming superlatives to the Truro Agricultural Fair. Spend the Sunday of Labor Day weekend sampling local growers’ best in the harvest market, delicious baked goods at the Long Table and Bake Sale, and learning about local farming and fishing at information booths. Find out who gets ribbons for the biggest and best homegrown food, or chow down during the fair’s hourly pie-eating contests. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free. Wellfleet OysterFest  |  October 19–20

Jubilant crowds and mouthwatering local seafood dishes are the catch of the day at the Wellfleet OysterFest. The celebration of this iconic bivalve and Outer Cape delicacy draws thousands in the off-season for two days of live music, cooking demonstrations, and the ever-popular shucking contest, a crowd favorite in which competitors attempt to shuck 24 oysters as quickly as possible. Admission is $5, with proceeds funding scholarships and community initiatives from event organizers, Wellfleet Shellfish Promotion and Tasting, Inc.
