Sheila’s Favorite

Recipe provided by Something Natural, Nantucket,


  • 8-10 slices of oatmeal bread
  • 4 or 5 large leaves of green leaf or other leafy lettuce
  • 1 large or 2 small ripe tomatoes, cored and sliced
  • 3 large carrots, peeled and shredded
  • 2 large kosher dill pickles, sliced thin the long way
  • 8 or 10 thin slices of Swiss cheese
  • Mayonnaise to taste (it’s not Sheila’s favorite without mayonnaise!)


  1. Spread mayonnaise on one slice of bread and add 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Layer lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and a heaping pile of carrots on the other side. Close and enjoy.
