Cape Cod Life Issue No 1

In 1979, Cape Cod Life Publications was born out of one man’s love for a special spit of land and a 68-page leap of faith. For over 40 years, those 68 pages have blossomed into a regional publication company dedicated to serving the community. It was Brian Shortsleeve’s mission when he put together that very first issue to make his own passion for the region something personal to all readers, and since then, Cape Cod Life has flourished thanks to one commonality that so many of us seem to share: an unshakable connection to the Cape & Islands.

For the last 29 years of this journey, the Best of Cape Cod & the Islands awards have been Cape Cod Life’s way of connecting with readers, giving them the opportunity to weigh in and share the things they love about the region. Thanks to thousands of Cape lovers who contribute yearly, the Best Of awards have become a comprehensive guide to the region—a way to cultivate informed and enthusiastic visitors and locals, and to introduce them to the very best the Cape & Islands have to offer. This year, we received over 74,000 votes and are ecstatic to introduce over 800 winners.

Best of Cape Cod - New format

In 2020, we have taken steps to present you with a guide to the best things to do, places to eat, shops to visit, and more across each of the four regions of the Cape, as well as Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, that is both detailed and interactive. So, we would like to introduce to you a brand new, online platform where you can explore winners, view photos, find information like business descriptions, websites, directions, and phone numbers, and so much more. As you explore all the vibrant businesses and locations that the region has to offer, we hope that you will use these online pages as your digital guide, discovering new spots or perhaps returning to old favorites. Whatever the case may be, take Cape Cod Life along for the journey!

We can all agree that 2020 has been a uniquely challenging year. As a region that thrives on a seasonal economy, many of the businesses that are so often recognized by our annual Best Of Cape Cod & the Islands awards have faced particular hardship. And so, it has never meant more to us to be able to recognize these people and places for their resiliency, passion, and dedication to making the Cape & Islands better, more vibrant, every day.

We invite you to join us in congratulating this year’s winners—they certainly deserve it.
