Orleans Celebrate our Waters Festival
September 15 @ 6:00 pm - September 17 @ 11:00 pm
The 8th annual Orleans Celebrate our Waters Festival features three days of activities at locations around town, all with the goal of increasing awareness of the area’s natural resources including ponds, marshes and beaches. Activities include kayaking, practicing yoga on the beach, and setting out on a bird walk with the Mass. Audubon Society. The festival was started by the Orleans Pond Coalition, which is dedicated to protecting and preserving the town’s waters. “The uniqueness of this town emanates from its waters,” says Anne Sigsbee, a coalition member. New-in-2017 activities include food tastings featuring “non-traditional fish,” such as dogfish and skate; and a screening of A Plastic Ocean (2016), a revealing documentary on ocean pollution. On Saturday, a community bonfire will be held at Nauset Beach, beginning at 6 p.m. Festival events are free and open to the public, though some require reservations. orleanspondcoalition.org
