Three-time award winner for Excellence in Remodeling

As in years past, Chuck Hart of Lewis & Weldon Custom Kitchens needed assistance carrying BRICC awards home after the 2016 ceremony. The Hyannis-based firm has been well-received by the BRICC awards in the past, and this latest round proved the company is still one of the best. Winning two gold awards and one silver for three separate projects in Excellence in Remodeling, Lewis & Weldon also garnered gold recognition for the quality exhibited in their marketing efforts for a new semi-custom line of cabinetry called “Cranberry Cove.” “This is an acknowledgment not only for the company but for the families of employees and customers as well; we wouldn’t be anywhere without them,” Hart says with a smile.

The homeowners knew when they purchased their summer home that a new kitchen was on the list to make their new Cape Cod home truly theirs. Uninspired builder’s stock choices and a confined layout were replaced with a custom open design, high-end appliances, and the introduction of a color palette that repeated the coastal surroundings they love. Attention to detail rendered a casual functionality, like raised sides on the island to obscure the more unsightly remains of family meal preparations, a laundry center, and increased storage.

Afforded the luxury and freedom of designing a layout for a homeowner that had few time restrictions on their project, Hart and his team were able to flush out the design and functional needs of one family’s very special kitchen. Previously having a small kitchen with limited prep and storage space, but a plethora of guests who wanted to gather around their hosts for memorable dinner parties, the owners and Lewis & Weldon’s team created a welcoming, multi-functional space that encourages collaboration not only at mealtime but throughout the day for the entire family. The finished kitchen now offers a “Sunny Yellow” gathering space where family members and guests can interact and enjoy time together.

Having built one of the first homes on the golf course at the Ridge Club over 30 years ago, the clients’ were ready for an update. Transformation for the entire first floor and parts of the second floor included the kitchen, living room built-ins, master closet and master bath. Hart and his team opened walls and removed ceilings and soffits to create an open, transitional space. The new, lighter design called for white cabinets, but it also acknowledges the past design with rustic cherry in the island. The fireplace in the living area quickly embraced current technology with a new mantle and integrated audio and video above. And the wet bar of yesteryear re-emerged as a dry bar with a Sub Zero fridge drawer for easy access to drinks while relaxing on the deck.
