Brian Shortsleeve

President and Publisher
Brian Shortsleeve is the owner, publisher and founder of Cape Cod Life Publications. He grew up vacationing summers at Craigville Beach where he learned to sail when he was 12. During his years at Boston College High School and Holy Cross College, he began successful entrepreneurships in the areas of sailing instruction, sailboat rentals, and school newspaper and student telephone book publishing. After college Brian worked for a national publishing company. In 1979, he combined his love of the Cape and Islands with his interest in publishing by starting Cape Cod LIFE magazine. His personal column “Gunkholing” has appeared in every issue since 1979.

Liz Cooke

Controller/Business Administrator
Liz grew up in Canton, MA and spent every summer at her family home in Pocasset. She graduated summa cum laude from Curry College where she received a degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting. The first ten years of Liz’s career were spent in accounting and private equity firms in Boston. Three years ago Liz relocated to Cape Cod as a full time resident with her two children. After many years as a stay-at-home mom, she is resuming her career at Cape Cod Life Magazine. She loves puzzles, all animals, and new adventures with her kids.

Judy Shortsleeve

Office Manager
Judy Howell Shortsleeve joined Cape Cod Life in 1990 as the business manager. She married Brian Shortsleeve in the summer of 1990 and continued working until the birth of their second son. With both boys in high school, she came back to Cape Cod Life. Judy lives in Bourne with her husband, Brian, and two sons, Joshua and Maxwell. She likes cooking, reading, spending time on the beach and black labs.

Julie Craven Wagner

Associate Publisher/Editor
Julie Craven Wagner began her experience with Cape Cod Life in 2010 when she joined the sales team after 10 years of working with local business on the Cape and Islands with WMVY. In addition to sales, she has been a contributing writer to Cape Cod LIFE for a number of years and the editor of Cape Cod HOME since 2016. She also serves on the editorial board for Cape Cod ART. Growing up on the Outer Cape has given her a unique perspective of life on Cape Cod, from tip to bridge, and that is reflected in her appreciation and presentation of stories found within the pages of our publications. Julie lives in North Falmouth with her husband, Eric, and their yellow lab, Bode. When she finds free time, she enjoys her Cape Cod life sailing on Buzzards Bay, spending time on the beach in Wellfleet, or exploring Martha’s Vineyard.

Elizabeth Shaw

Assistant Editor/Videographer
Elizabeth Shaw is a videographer for Cape Cod Life Publications. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Elizabeth spent many summers on the Cape, before she and her family moved down full time in 2016. Elizabeth graduated the University of Rhode Island as a double major in Writing & Rhetoric and Film Media, and started at Cape Cod Life the following fall. In her free time, she takes as many pictures of her dog, Watson, as possible, in between beach trips

Allyson Plessner

Digital Editor
Allyson Plessner is the digital editor for Cape Cod Life Publications. Born in Florida, Allyson has been a lifelong summer resident of the Cape. She is an alumna of the College of Charleston, located in Charleston, South Carolina, where she completed bachelor’s degrees in both English and Spanish. In her free time, Allyson is an avid sailor, beach-goer, and—like her fellow Cape Cod Life colleagues—a dog-lover.

Brenna Collins is a staff writer for Cape Cod Life Publications. This spring, she graduated from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire with a major in Communication. Brenna has been a lifelong summer resident of the Cape, and her family moved to Harwich full time in 2017. Writing has always been a passion for Brenna, and she is excited to gain experience behind the scenes at Cape Cod Life Publications. In her free time, Brenna loves to go to the beach and spend time with her family, friends, and cocker spaniel named Callie.

Clarice Theriault, a Cape native, is the graphic designer/production assistant for Cape Cod Life Publications. In December 2019, she graduated from Fitchburg State University with a major in Communications Media with a concentration in Professional Communications. She enjoys trying different local restaurants, hanging out with her pets, being creative, and like most Cape Codders — the beach!

Laura Crocker started with Cape Cod Life Publications in 1996 as a marketing coordinator. As Cape Cod Life expanded and started publishing Cape Cod HOME that same year, she joined the sales team. She took a short hiatus in 2005 when her second child was born. After getting her children settled in school, she rejoined the sales staff in 2011. Laura lives in East Falmouth with her husband, son, daughter and their chocolate lab. Her favorite escape is the beach—it’s one of the reasons she loves the Cape so much!

Advertising Sales Manager
Steve Dewey joined the sales crew at Cape Cod Life Publications in 2011 and works with businesses in the Mid Cape and on Nantucket. He started coming to the Cape from Worcester at an early age for summers and still vividly remembers the joy of crossing the bridge and "getting here." Steve's previous work experience includes 20 years of business-to-business sales in the Metro Boston area. He and his wife, Susan, editor at Cape Cod Life Publications from 2008 to 2016, are lucky ducks to have two young grandchildren, on the Cape and in Vermont, with one more on the way. Free time is spent chasing the little white ball, helping Susan grow farmers' market vegetables, and enjoying the Red Sox/Pats revelry.

Stacey Smith

Advertising Sales Manager
Stacey Smith is Advertising Sales Manager for the towns of Dennis to Provincetown. Her specialty is helping new businesses establish marketing strategies that encompass all methods of promotion. She is a board member of the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown and a trustee at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster. When not working, Stacey enjoys getting her hands dirty while organic gardening.

Laura Taylor has the distinction of being a team member at Cape Cod Life Publications since April 1992. Laura truly enjoys helping people with their business challenges and offering connections, ideas and solutions. Establishing business relationships and cultivating long-term friendships are among the pleasures and rewards she appreciates so much. Laura’s fond of saying, “It’s not work if you love it,” and she is grateful for the many Cape Cod Life adventures she’s had the good fortune to enjoy. She also enjoys spending time on as many beaches and back roads as she can find on beautiful Cape Cod.

Alisa Mann

Alisa Mann joined the Cape Cod Life Publications sales team in 2020 and works with businesses in the Mid Cape. A native New Yorker, she spent family summer vacations on Cape Cod and has always been drawn to the beauty and history of New England where she graduated from Simmons College and calls Plymouth home. Alisa’s previous work experience includes 20 years of business to business sales within luxury and lifestyle brands across the Northeast. She is passionate about cultivating client relationships, creating customized solutions and providing excellent service allowing her to add value, sales growth and maintain lasting relationships. Free time is spent baking  cycling, traveling and exploring all the scenic beauty that the Cape and Islands has to offer.
