Cape Cod Life Publications Staff
President and Publisher
Brian Shortsleeve is the owner, publisher and founder of Cape Cod Life Publications. He grew up vacationing summers at Craigville Beach where he learned to sail when he was 12. During his years at Boston College High School and Holy Cross College, he began successful entrepreneurships in the areas of sailing instruction, sailboat rentals, and school newspaper and student telephone book publishing. After college Brian worked for a national publishing company. In 1979, he combined his love of the Cape and Islands with his interest in publishing by starting Cape Cod LIFE magazine. His personal column “Gunkholing” has appeared in every issue since 1979.
Judy Howell Shortsleeve joined Cape Cod Life in 1990 as the business manager. She married Brian Shortsleeve in the summer of 1990 and continued working until the birth of their second son. With both boys in high school, she came back to Cape Cod Life as the food editor and also to work on various other projects. In 2011, she became the business manager again and then the associate publisher. Judy lives in Bourne with her husband, Brian, and two sons, Joshua and Maxwell. She likes cooking, reading, spending time on the beach and black labs.

A relative newcomer when it comes to the Cape, Matt and his wife Melissa just celebrated a Cape Cod-themed wedding.
Haley Cote is the assistant editor for Cape Cod Life Publications. A lifelong Cape Cod resident, Haley is an alumna of Barnstable High School and Cape Cod Community College. Julie Craven Wagner
Cape Cod HOME Editor/ Marketing Director/ Advertising Sales Manager
Julie Craven Wagner began her experience with Cape Cod Life in 2010 when she joined the sales team after 10 years of working with local business on the Cape and Islands with WMVY. In addition to sales, she has been a contributing writer to Cape Cod LIFE for a number of years and the editor of Cape Cod HOME since 2016. She also serves on the editorial board for Cape Cod ART. Growing up on the Outer Cape has given her a unique perspective of life on Cape Cod, from tip to bridge, and that is reflected in her appreciation and presentation of stories found within the pages of our publications. Julie lives in North Falmouth with her husband, Eric, and their yellow lab, Bode. When she finds free time, she enjoys her Cape Cod life sailing on Buzzards Bay, spending time on the beach in Wellfleet, or exploring Martha’s Vineyard.
Jennifer Dow, a second generation Cape native, joined Cape Cod Life Publications in 2011 as the Print & Web Designer. Since then she has grown to become the Creative Director, responsible for designing Cape Cod LIFE, Cape Cod HOME and Cape Cod ART as well managing the production department. Jen is proud to be in great creative company, working closely with Web Designer Jenn Shurkus and Graphic Designer Liz Delaney on various projects. While attending Barnstable High School, Jen’s “dream job” was to work for Cape Cod LIFE magazine—and after graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in design, that dream became a reality. Jen lives in Centerville with her boyfriend, Pete, and their border collie, Bruin. She enjoys spending time on Sandy Neck Beach, exploring the Cape and Islands, and finding new ways to be creative through photography and crafting.
Liz Delaney is the Graphic Designer for Cape Cod Life Publications. From the New England area, Liz is inspired by the beauty the Cape and Islands have to offer. She is a recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. As a designer for Cape Cod Life, Liz assists with designing the print issues, advertising and social media content. Fueled by coffee, Liz also gets energized through collaborating with her colleagues every day. In her free time, she enjoys sifting through antique shops, hanging out with her three furry siblings, and getting creative in the kitchen.
Web Designer & Social Media Manager
Jenn is a proud wash-a-shore. She moved to the Cape in 2003 knowing very little about the area or the ocean. She grew up in the woods and mountains of New Hampshire. She quickly realized that the ocean had been calling her name all her life. Jenn lived here for a decade managing a small business in Hyannis. When that closed, she moved to Providence RI, working as a web designer at Providence College. In 2016 she was wicked excited to move back to the Cape and be part of Cape Cod Life Publications where everyone is passionate about their work and this beautiful area. Jenn lives in Osterville with her boyfriend, Chris, and a super handsome kitty named Mister Harley. When she isn’t being creative with digital design and social media strategy, she is happy to be at her studio table getting paint under her nails. In her spare time, Jenn is a creative chick, creative instructor, teaches papercrafting classes around the country, and hosts art retreats locally. Jenn enjoys experiencing all the Cape has to offer and during the summer you can always find her relaxing on Dowses Beach.
