Brian Shortsleeve
President and Publisher
Brian Shortsleeve is the owner, publisher and founder of Cape Cod Life Publications. He grew up vacationing summers at Craigville Beach where he learned to sail when he was 12. During his years at Boston College High School and Holy Cross College, he began successful entrepreneurships in the areas of sailing instruction, sailboat rentals, and school newspaper and student telephone book publishing. After college Brian worked for a national publishing company. In 1979, he combined his love of the Cape and Islands with his interest in publishing by starting Cape Cod LIFE magazine. His personal column “Gunkholing” has appeared in every issue since 1979.

Julie Craven Wagner
Associate Publisher/Editor
Julie Craven Wagner began her experience with Cape Cod Life in 2010 when she joined the sales team after 10 years of working with local businesses on the Cape and Islands with WMVY. In addition to sales, she is the Associate Publisher/Editor of Cape Cod LIFE, Cape Cod HOME, and Cape Cod ART. Growing up on the Outer Cape has given her a unique perspective of life on Cape Cod, from tip to bridge, and that is reflected in her appreciation and presentation of stories found within the pages of our publications. Julie lives in North Falmouth with her husband, Eric, and their yellow lab, Enzo. When she finds free time, she enjoys her Cape Cod life sailing on Buzzards Bay, spending time on the beach in Wellfleet, or exploring Martha’s Vineyard.
Leslie Hatton
Assistant Editor
Leslie (Horne) Hatton enthusiastically joined Cape Cod Life in October of 2022. Educated in Mashpee and Falmouth, she graduated from Assumption College and received her Master of Education degree from Lesley College. A former teacher, she has taught middle school, preschool and most recently, fifth grade. She and her husband Tom have three children: Aidan, Colin, and Erin. Their newest family member is Millie, an outgoing, outrageously happy chocolate lab. She loves to talk about all of them so better not ask. One neat tidbit about Leslie is that she is the author of the locally best-selling children’s book Cape Cod ABCs, with over 10K books sold on Cape Cod, the Islands and across Massachusetts. Happiest in the summer with a little sun on her face, she loves being with friends and her family, laughing, drinking and eating all over beautiful Cape Cod.

She spends most of her free time with her family, especially her chocolate lab Sadie, and enjoys spending summers on her family’s boat.

She returned to CT to join an ad agency and worked on many prestigious accounts including Yale New Haven Hospital, SAS Airlines and the Mohegan Sun basketball team. Once the pandemic hit, she and her husband Charlie decided life is short and made their part time Cape home a permanent one. Susan spends her free time sewing, reading on the beach and walking her two corgis, Tulip and Jake.
