On the decks of Nantucket’s Endeavor, Lisa and Tom Homand embark on a new journey together. 

Blue skies can be elusive on the Grey Lady, but on a late day in August, the sun won its battle against the persistent haze and a light breeze swirled over the shores of Nantucket. On that wind blew a familiar site for Islanders: the Endeavor, a classic sailboat, cruising through the harbor. This day, Endeavor was accompanied through the moorings by the rousing sounds of a fiddle. 

As Endeavor reached the wharf, the fiddle gave way to cheers and shouts from the docks, echoed by boat horns, all to celebrate the couple on board, uniquely dressed for a day on the water. The man wore a suit, and the woman, a billowing white dress. 

Lisa Homand grew up roaming the docks with her brother James, watching from the wharf as the Endeavor set sail each day. As the kids got older their lives took shape on the deck of that sailboat: a 31 foot Friendship Sloop, hand built by their dad. Lisa spent most of her big milestones on that dock, and crewing on the Endeavor, and so it was only fitting she open the next chapter of her life onboard. She married her husband Tom on a beautiful blue day in August, with the same community that used to greet her in her stroller on the docks, cheering as she returned with Tom and both of their families to the wharf.

Tom grew up just across the Sound in Falmouth. His Mom jokes that she expected their Cape Cod home to be the go-to summer stomping grounds for any future grandchildren. And then, her son met a girl from Nantucket.
