Note: Billingsgate Island once existed as an island off the west coast of Wellfleet, and the lighthouse built there was the third to be built on Cape Cod. At one point in the 1800s, Billingsgate housed 30 homes, a school, and a lighthouse. However, the island has been completely submerged since the 1940s. A popular fishing area today, a sandbar at low tide marks the location where the lighthouse used to be.
