The View From Here

Grateful for every chapter that contributed to where he is today, Doug Meehan loves capturing, and sharing what catches his eye. 

If you happen to visit @dougmeehanphotography on Instagram, you will find nature and wildlife photography, classic New England scenes of beaches and lighthouses, urban landscapes, and images from iconic New England sporting events and venues. But the image that captures the spirit behind that photography fits into none of those categories.

Instead, it is an almost abstract image of water droplets on a flat surface. The blurred images in the background suggest a sports setting, but exactly what kind is unclear. This photograph, “Dewy Dugout,” was captured by Meehan in 2018, at Dodger Stadium, while he was covering the World Series. As Meehan describes it, “For the kid who spent his high school baseball career on the bench for the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins, to be standing in center field at Dodger Stadium for the World Series? It’s like, how did I get here?” It is that sense of appreciation for the things he’s experienced that Doug Meehan brings to his photography, along with what he says is the thrill of “bringing people to places where they wouldn’t normally get to go.”

Doug Meehan himself is familiar to New Englanders as a morning anchor for the Eyeopener for WCVB News Center 5, but his career in media began decades ago, while he was still a child. “I knew I wanted to be on television when I was 12,” he says.
