In May of 2020, lighting expert Steve Rice brought his knowledge and passion of the lighting industry to the Cape & Islands, with his business Light & Living and their first showroom located in North Eastham. Fast-forward to 2022, Rice has expanded his business with Light & Living’s second showroom, located just a few yards away from the flagship location.

With over 34 years of experience under his belt, Rice continues to curate a collection of fixtures in his showrooms that are beautifully crafted and built for Cape Cod’s harsh environment. Unlike their competitors, Light & Living’s displays are exclusively design driven. “They have to be extremely well designed, craftsman quality and functional,” says Rice. Between their two showrooms, they now have one of the largest displays of lighting from Visual Comfort, Hubbarton Forge, and Northeast Lantern in New England. They carry and display over 500 different products that are sculptural and enlightening–catering towards those who are looking for design and quality.

“The idea of expanding into the new showroom was really so we could better showcase our displays,” explains Rice. “We wanted to convey the essence of the lines that we work with.” With the second showroom, Rice introduced three new lines that are exclusive to that location: Accord Lighting, stunning Art & Alchemy lighting and Annie Selke area rugs, as well as throw pillows. “Our clients were really asking for more assortment of finishes, sizes, and overall aesthetics,” says Rice. “With the first showroom, I also noticed that a lot of people were looking for a one-stop-shop when it came to lighting and home furnishings, so we expanded our home furnishing collection with Annie Selke, throughout the second showroom to display the line.”

“What makes my business really different is the fact that it serves a need right now that, on the Cape, no one is addressing–lighting that really fits perfectly into a space,” Rice explains. “My hope with the second showroom is to really expand the awareness of how lighting is the jewelry to your space.”

He notes, “Anytime during the construction, design, or remodel phase is when you should give us a visit.” As a lighting consultant, Light & Living helps homeowners, interior designers, custom builders, and architects, with design layout through installation. “We aren’t just here to sell product, we want to make sure it’s the right application for your home,” says Rice.

Light & Living provides their expert services and showrooms to anyone in the Cape and Islands trading area, with appointment services to meet with prospective clients and schedule “one-on-ones” in their showrooms.
