Owner: David Silva • Mixologist: Mark Sybe

“With each bottle of Elyx sold, it provides a week’s worth of fresh drinking water to a single person in Peru. One bottle means a lot of water for one individual. It was a no brainer for us at Galley to get onboard with that.” -Mark Syben

Situated on Cliffside Beach facing Nantucket Sound, Galley Beach on Nantucket is the ideal spot for an al fresco lunch, sunset dinner or refreshing cocktail by the shore. Owned and operated by the Silva family since 1958, it’s the type of place one can imagine presidents and movie stars dining—likely because they have.

“With food and wine, the inspirations are endless and constant,” says owner David Silva. “From our relationships with island farms and fisheries to visiting our friends’ restaurants on and off island, there is always something to be inspired by.”

Galley Beach is open from Mother’s Day to Columbus Day, and Silva explains that the seasonality of the restaurant allows for occasional travel, drawing inspiration from wine regions, favorite cities and coastal towns. At the end of the day, however, it’s the Nantucket community that holds this restaurateur’s heart. “Nantucket is a special place, and both the year-round community and seasonal residents recognize this. We all take care of each other,” says Silva. “There are many examples of the community pitching in, not just on an annual basis through a multitude of successful nonprofits but also in more acute cases when a local family just needs some help. I think we are very lucky to be part of that.”

Just like the food, the cocktails at Galley Beach can’t be beat. “We do our best to make our cocktail list diverse and approachable,” says mixologist Mark Syben. “We’re set on beachfront property, and our cocktails are served with world-class food. We want your drink to match the level of cuisine and ambiance we strive for on a daily basis at Galley Beach.”
