“We create an environment where everybody wins—client, builder, contractor, and architect,” says Ralph Cataldo, president of Cataldo Custom Builders in East Falmouth. “You have to be team-oriented to be successful.”

Cataldo prides himself on his business acumen, which he says is the result of an extensive background in the corporate world. For 12 years, Cataldo worked as a senior engineer and manager in the high-tech computer industry, ultimately deciding to leave the field for the high-end custom home building industry on Cape Cod.

“It’s just a great challenge to create something out of nothing,” he explains, “but every project is different, and the end result is so rewarding.”

For over 25 years, Cataldo Custom Builders has specialized in new home construction and remodeling on Cape Cod, building primarily on the Cape waterfront. In 2011, the company was named “America’s Best Builder” by Builder magazine.

Creating loyalty and building trust in relationships with clients has been key for the company, says Cataldo, and being “brilliant at the basics,” especially finances, has also proven to be critically important.

“You have to be very aware of your finances at all times, because they’re not your finances,” Cataldo says, stressing the importance of understanding break-even point and cash-flow.

“We’re honest and transparent. This simplifies a very complicated financial process and it gains the client’s trust.”

To be successful, “you have to walk the talk,” Cataldo adds. “And you have to deliver what you say you’re going to deliver, and then some.”
