Cutting Edge Homes’ designers and builders “think differently,” says company President Sean Cutting. To Cutting, this means not accepting the status quo and bringing a fresh perspective to the design process.
“We train and are looking for employees who really question age-old construction methods and are able to think outside of the box,” Cutting says. “We have the distinct privilege, which we do not take lightly, of working on some gorgeous and premier properties, not only in New England, but throughout the East Coast, so we want to push the boundaries.”
Thinking differently is exactly what Cutting did when he took over Cutting Edge Homes from the company’s founder—his father, Curt Cutting—in January of 2012. “I had always said that I would not take over the family business,” he says with a laugh, “and one thing led to another.” Cutting, whose background is in economics and finance, saw the opportunity to not only bring a business-minded perspective to the over two decades-old company, but also to expand it into an “all-inclusive boutique firm.”
“Today, the most valuable asset is time,” he says. “What we really wanted to do was to create an all-inclusive approach.” Cutting explains that his company’s clients are provided with a full range of services, saving valuable time. This allows the firm, with offices in Newton and Chatham, to guide their clients through every step of a project, from site evaluation and permitting, through construction, architectural, and interior design steps, to landscape planning and installation. Cutting Edge also provides property management services after each project is completed.
“For us,” Cutting explains, “it’s about trying to create timeless, elegant projects that really buck any sort of trend.”
