With the surge of DIY’ing encouraged by Pinterest boards and Instagram, you may wonder what the benefits are of enlisting the help of a color specialist, but after speaking with him and hearing the breadth of his knowledge and passion for the topic, it’s clear we could all benefit from his expert eye. 

CCH: What do you do for clients who seek out your services? 

VR: I go into your home or into your space see exactly what you’re seeing. I’m able to look at your preferences and see your considerations which might be a north facing room or what kind of natural light you’re getting, which always affects color. I get to see exactly what we’re working with…furniture pieces, draperies, carpeting vs. hardwood flooring, wood trim…all of this plays into it. It gives us both the opportunity to discuss suggestions and ideas together. People often say, “Wow, I never thought of that.” I talk and listen and see what their style is, what their personality is. Everyone usually has thoughts and ideas of what they want so in that way, I can guide them and let them know I’ve had experience with those colors that they’re considering but I can also get them to consider another shade or direction.

CCH: Are any rules of thumb when it comes to color or paint selection in a small room, like a bathroom?
