For many who live on Cape Cod, KAM Appliances has been a lifelong presence. The company has been a mainstay in the community for over 40 years. Forced to move from its iconic brick building due to municipal improvements, KAM took advantage of the opportunity to build a spacious new showroom complete with live kitchens, an in-house chef, and plenty of space for displays. To complement the Nantucket and Hanover locations, KAM’s gorgeous new flagship store is conveniently located across the way from BJ’s Wholesale in Hyannis.
KAM is the one-stop for all appliance needs from cooking and refrigeration to laundry and dishwashers. “The variety of brands and models is extensive and includes all price points—budget to luxury. The breadth of what is available today has vastly changed over the last 40 years,” says Kevin Gralton, one of the owners of KAM. “Understanding what is found on the showroom floor is critical for folks making decisions about tools for the bedrock of daily living: food preparation, food storage, tools for cleaning up after big celebrations or the simple nitty gritty of day-in-day-out meals and laundry.” No longer are the choices between gas or electric: there are cooktops or ranges, smooth-top or induction, there are convection ovens, steam ovens, and various food warmers. The varieties and options for refrigeration are dizzying: built-in, freestanding, bottom freezer, wine and beverage centers, French doors, glass doors, panel-ready and more, not to mention the availability of custom colors and the new smart wifi appliances which add a whole new dimension of convenience.
With the endless assortment of options, decisions can be daunting which is why the new location was thoughtfully designed with over 20,000 square feet of showroom space. Two-thirds of the store is filled with an extensive selection from popular brands like GE, SubZero, Wolf, Bosch, Miele, Whirlpool, Café, and more. “We understand that appliances are not an impulse purchase. We want our customers to be able to feel what it will be like to open the door, slide the racks, turn the dials. They need to love what they’re buying because they’ll most likely be using it every day for years to come,” explains Gralton.
The remaining third of the showroom is dedicated to live kitchens with working appliances giving customers a fully immersive experience. “This is an exciting feature for anyone entering the showroom,” Gralton points out. “Customers gravitate to the live kitchens because it’s fun to ‘play’ around, whether it be a dream kitchen or a real consideration. Our full-time chef, Linda Davey, loves engaging with customers and demonstrating the various features and new technology.” Chef Linda is always onsite at one of the locations. She’s experienced with everything in the live kitchens because she’s usually found preparing delicious foods and creating the savory smells of home that fill the showrooms.
The huge selection of appliances and delightful aromas of Chef Linda’s cooking are complemented by an experienced team who truly cares about customers. “Our team is so much more than simply sales. We’re a local, family-owned company and our team is an extension of our family. With an average of over 20 years of industry experience, we not only have the knowledge and expertise, but put our heart and soul into helping our customers find the appliances best suited to their needs,” says Gralton. Kevin Gralton, along with his brother and sister, John and Kassie, have owned KAM Appliances since 1985. They proudly share that their very first employee, George “Bing” Kalweit, still works for the company and his son Steve has also been part of the team for over 35 years.
