On the banks of the Slocum River Estuary in South Dartmouth, Pimental Contractors and interior designer Karen Corinha created a home where thoughtful budgeting, quiet interiors and an extraordinary NanaWall allow the landscape to become part of everyday life.

The best waterfront homes know when to step aside.

Perched above the Slocum River Estuary in South Dartmouth, this newly reimagined retreat understands that its greatest luxury isn’t found in imported stone or elaborate ornamentation. It’s found beyond the glass, where tides rise and fall, marsh grasses sway in the coastal breeze and every room shares an uninterrupted conversation with the water.

That conversation begins the moment the home’s dramatic NanaWall disappears. Stretching across the waterfront façade, the expansive folding glass wall erases the traditional boundary between indoors and out, transforming the main living space into an open-air pavilion. The estuary becomes another room of the house, inviting the sights, sounds and salt-kissed air inside while allowing family and friends to move effortlessly from kitchen to deck to shoreline.

It is an extraordinary architectural gesture, but one made possible only because every other decision throughout the project reflected remarkable discipline.

Working together from the earliest stages of design, Pimental Contractors of New Bedford and interior designer Karen Corinha, principal of Falmouth’s Corinha Design, understood that creating a home of quiet sophistication required knowing precisely where to invest—and where thoughtful restraint could accomplish just as much. The homeowners were unwavering in their priorities. They wanted a home that celebrated its remarkable setting without exceeding a carefully considered budget. Rather than viewing those parameters as limitations, the design team embraced them as opportunities for creativity.
