In our August issue, in recent years we have done our best to capture “Olde Cape Cod.” The cover photo on this issue includes a caption, “Following in the Footsteps of Thoreau.”

I thought, what better way is there to address this subject than to share a photo of an area which probably looks today just as it did in Thoreau’s time. This photo taken by my son, Joshua, does just that. The scene is in Wellfleet at Sunset Point on the Cape Cod Bay shoreline of Wellfleet, with a town landing in the upper portion of the photo. I am sure Thoreau would recognize it if he were here today. A little over 100 years ago, Thoreau planned to visit Cape Cod for one week but he stayed for a year. And, today he would probably wish he had a drone camera.

Prints by Joshua Shortsleeve are intended to help us appreciate and motivate us to protect and preserve the natural beauty of “Olde Cape Cod.”

My Best,
