Life in Snapshots

The moment Matthew Notarangelo stepped off the ferry and onto the island of Nantucket the trajectory of his life was forever changed. Originally from central Massachusetts, he came to Nantucket in 2010 for a summer job that led him to become a year-rounder. “I still remember the first day I arrived here,” he says. “I thought I was in National Geographic; I was just blown away.”

Creativity, sparked by his love of the island, began in 2020 for the up-and-coming photographer when the world shut down during COVID and life seemed to be at a standstill. “I was bored and just wanted to get out of the house,” he remembers. “So, I started taking photos with my iPhone and sharing them on Instagram. I found that a lot of people were interested in Nantucket—especially during that time because they couldn’t make it out to the island.” With the goal of getting outside and taking a photo every single day, he quickly saw his Instagram flourishing. “It was as I started to get more creative with storytelling through photos and videos, more and more people were sharing my work,” says Notarangelo, who also made the upgrade to a professional camera, as he notes, “It pretty much changed the game for me.” 

By simply looking through his portfolio of work, his love for the island is evident. “Nantucket has influenced me in a way that I can’t describe in words—it’s more of a feeling.
