Spotlight: Light & Living
In Light of Design
One of the greatest harbingers of the good design found on the Cape these days resides in Eastham at Light & Living, an inspirational multi-showroom destination featuring stunning lighting, rugs, pillows and mirrors; all in a comfortable and tasteful setting. In 2020, principal Steve Rice, a lighting consultant and professional with almost four decades of experience, created and now has expanded his offering across three separate showrooms. Each space tells a story of beautiful design, great function and innovative presentation with over 500 fixtures brilliantly displayed from brands such as Hubbardton Forge, Visual Comfort, Northeast Lantern and Schonbeck.
Rice says visitors to his showrooms respond with three key observations, “My customers immediately notice the variety of product; then as they navigate, they are drawn to unique design elements that appeal to them personally—and that is a very emotional response. Third, as they explore what they are drawn to and how it might contribute to their personal environment, the impressive quality that is inherent with every manufacturer really makes the experience invaluable.” A walk through these showrooms brings Rice’s words to life; pendants, chandeliers and sconces for interiors and exteriors, in a variety of finishes and aesthetics elicit plenty of breathtaking moments, all with an illuminating moment of imagination where the artistic pieces exist in your own home.
The artistry on display is unparalleled on Cape Cod, but the experience of Light & Living evolves into a personal discovery of a new partnership with a subject matter expert who has been lighting residential and commercial properties for 37 years. Rice’s ability to work with homeowners, designers, custom builders and architects is just one of the traits that distinguishes his unique skills and offerings from others. “I’ve enjoyed providing lighting and lighting design to private residences throughout the United States, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates for almost 40 years. Beautiful lighting and how it completes the design, has always been my passion,” Rice confesses.
