Luckily, there are a few local vendors around the Cape & Islands that have made weddings and events their specialty and are dedicated to ensuring that your experience is stress-free, unique and most importantly, fun! 

Classic wedding staples like striking flower arrangements and the perfect calligraphy to embellish invitations and save the date cards are critical to pulling together a memorable day, and the Cape has plenty to offer in terms of these traditional elements. On top of that, creative photo booths, chic handmade attire, and cocktails on wheels are all imaginative ways to step up your wedding game—or any event for that matter. What selfie-loving guest wouldn’t jump into a photo booth?

In the following pages, we’ve chosen just a few exceptional vendors making their mark on the many events and charming weddings that take place across the region. Sip & Script

Calligraphy as an art form is a classic way to transform invitations and save the date cards into cherished elements for any wedding or event. And how special would it be to add your own calligraphy to different elements of your wedding, like invitations or chalkboard signs? Julie Mancini and Meg Chaloner bonded over their love for calligraphy and decided to share that passion with others through their business, Sip & Script.

Sip & Script is a fun, informal way to learn about the art of hand lettering and calligraphy over lively conversation and delicious cocktails. Mancini and Chaloner partner with local venues across Massachusetts to host classes where everyone from beginners to professionals can learn and hone their craft. “One of the big things that Sip & Script is built on is having local calligraphers in front of our students each class,” says Mancini, explaining that many of the teachers are available to create custom calligraphy for wedding and events. “We are so happy to help them find new clients for wedding work.”

Local calligrapher, Allison DiMaggio is one such teacher, local to the Cape & Islands. Through her business, “Allison Kathleen”, she helps clients reach their full potential for creativity and inspires the perfect looks for their brands, weddings or own personal hobbies. Her calligraphy is even on the front cover of this issue!

Blossoms of Cape Cod

The Cape is such a distinctive place for a wedding or other special event, it only makes sense that the flowers and décor should be memorable, unique and evocative of the area. At Blossoms of Cape Cod in Dennis, designs that stop you in your tracks are exactly what they deliver every day. For lucky brides who find their way to Blossoms, owner Tara Cappello makes it her mission to bring their vision to a stunning reality. “I love it when someone tells me that something can’t or shouldn’t be done,” she explains. “I make it a challenge for myself and love seeing their reaction when our team has pulled it all together and it looks amazing.”

Cappello says not all of the weddings on the Cape have a beachside vibe. “We like to have the bride bring us photos of what they like, what is personal to them. And that includes all sorts of different styles.” One remarkable thing about the arrangements that Blossoms creates is the unusual, unexpected and unbelievably long-lasting flowers she sources for every client. Cappello delivers rave reviews of local grower Meryl Gartside’s Blue Lobster Farm in Brewster. “Her stock is unlike any other that I have worked with,” she enthuses. “Meryl grows everything from seed, and varieties you won’t find from even the best commercial growers. But she puts such love and care into her flowers, they never have any bug spots and they last so much longer than anything else.”

From chuppas to arbors, from table arrangements to magnetic boutonnières, a memorable wedding will certainly be in store when Cappello and her team are on the guest list.

Janice Kissinger

A special occasion — a wedding, a graduation, a milestone anniversary — they all cry for an outfit that not only flatters, but elicits a feeling that embodies your confidence and inner joy. That is exactly what Janice Kissinger’s unique designs do for women who have a reason to celebrate. Kissinger, a textile artist, starts by handcrafting fabric from luxurious sources like silk Indian saris and luxurious wools. “I consider each piece a composition, inspired by a single vintage silk,” Kissinger explains. “I then respond to that by adding my own hand-dyed silks and loose wool fibers, using traditional wet felting methods to build both the fabric and the finished garment simultaneously.”

One thing that makes Kissinger’s award-winning designs truly unique, (other than their one-of-a-kind distinction) is that they are not sewn together, but rather crafted and molded, yet seem to have the ability to flatter a variety of shapes and sizes. Make no mistake about it, these pieces are special; as they should be for the kind of events Kissinger’s clients repeatedly cite when making their choices, but they are not an overly wrought financial decision. “They definitely are not ‘off-the-rack’ pieces,” says Kissinger. “But they are similar in cost to what you would regularly find in any good boutique.” Instead, clients are often found looking for additional venues to wear their distinctive designs again and again.

Razzmatazz Hair Studio

A bride’s special day is just a blink in time, yet the photos capture the moment for a lifetime, so looking your very best is everyone’s wish. A destination wedding, like the Cape, presents the challenge of who and where to turn to in order to get the look you want. Fortunately the professionals at Razzmatazz Hair Studio in Marstons Mills have been styling brides and their attendants for over 28 years. Handling at least 15 to 20 weddings a year, owner Jill Shinn says that the wedding business is very busy and something she and her talented stylists love to do. “It’s just such a happy day in someone’s life, how can you not want to make people look their very best.”

Wedding Coordinator Kerri Frawley, personally works with every bride to make sure the look they want and their special day are no less than perfect. Frawley says many brides request a style that is half up, half down, and often with beachy waves. When asked about decorative elements that brides are opting for in their hair, Frawley says, “The biggest distinction is their veil. Sometimes they will have a decorative clip they wear for the reception after they have removed their veil.”

The creative stylists at Razzmatazz leave nothing to chance on the special day with their attentive preparation. “We usually allow an hour per person for hair, and another hour for make-up,” Frawley explains.  “And not everybody books to have their make-up done, I think because they are nervous that it won’t look good. But as soon as they see how great one person looks, they all want it, and somehow we always seem to figure it out. We’ve never run late before, so it all works out.”

Cape Cod Mobile Mixers

A bar on wheels is exactly what you need to bring the fun right to your backyard (or wherever you choose to host your next event). Michael Doherty and Rory Nickerson, founders of Cape Cod Mobile Mixers, have set out to bring unique, elegant bar options to events across the region. Their charming set-up incorporates an all-inclusive, fully licensed mobile bar in a vintage camper, complete with certified bartenders. “I got married on the Cape,” says Doherty who moved back to the Cape from California having gained an extensive background in bartending. “We rented a house for the wedding and there was no bar, so Rory and I came up with the idea of a mobile bar that could come on a private property for the event and then pack up when it was all over.”

Both lovers of an outdoor lifestyle, Cape Cod, and craft beverages, Doherty and Nickerson have found a way to combine those passions into a distinctive business venture with their fleet of three vintage campers—adding a classy, retro flare to any event. They even use their campers as food trucks on Red River Beach and Bank Street Beach in Harwich during the day, selling fresh lobster rolls, hot dogs and other beach eats including cold brew iced coffee from local vendor Snowy Owl on tap. “We really try to support the local community,” says Doherty, who explains that each camper has a tap system perfect for serving local brews. “At all of our weddings we try to push local breweries and distilleries. We’re all about the Cape.”
