These comforting and engaging stories of holidays on Cape Cod provide a cozy escape from the busyness of the season and transport you to a festive place.

The Christmas Inn
by Pamela Kelley

Whether it’s reaching for a comfy blanket to curl up with, baking something too sugary and sweet, or turning on a sentimental movie, there’s something about the holidays that gets most of us in our feels. Pamela Kelley’s novel, The Christmas Inn is for the holidays on Cape Cod what a beach read is in the summer months.

While there are several storylines woven throughout the book, the central character is Riley Sanders, a content marketing manager in New York City who unfortunately loses her job right before Christmas. At the same time, her mother takes a bad fall; however with her newfound time off, Riley is able to return home to Cape Cod and help out at the bed & breakfast her mother owns.

In this Hallmark movie-esque story, you’ll meet characters who are each important to Riley in their own way: her mother, whose heart has been closed off since divorcing Riley’s father years ago but finds herself warming to the idea of new possibilities, Aidan, Riley’s high school sweetheart who is now a widow, raising his son Luke alone, Jack, Riley’s current boyfriend, and Franny, who is staying at the inn while she sorts through the details and emotions that accompany the recent passing of her sister.

A wintery Chatham provides the cozy backdrop for all of the holiday magic and soul-searching that Riley wrestles with—life decisions in her career and in her relationships that we can all relate to. Engaging and entertaining, grab The Christmas Inn...

Leslie Hatton

Leslie (Horne) Hatton enthusiastically joined Cape Cod Life in October of 2022. Educated in Mashpee and Falmouth, she graduated from Assumption College and received her Master of Education degree from Lesley College. A former teacher, she has taught middle school, preschool and most recently, fifth grade. She and her husband Tom have three children: Aidan, Colin, and Erin. Their newest family member is Millie, an outgoing, outrageously happy chocolate lab. She loves to talk about all of them so better not ask. One neat tidbit about Leslie is that she is the author of the locally best-selling children’s book Cape Cod ABCs, with over 10K books sold on Cape Cod, the Islands and across Massachusetts. Happiest in the summer with a little sun on her face, she loves being with friends and her family, laughing, drinking and eating all over beautiful Cape Cod.
