If you have been doing something for 34 years, hopefully it is something you are truly passionate about. For Al Sorbello, owner of Chatham’s Sorbello Landscaping, there is nothing he would rather do. “I absolutely love being outside,” he explains. “And there is nothing quite like someone putting their trust and their vision in you and allowing you to bring their dream to life. It is the best feeling in the world.” Thankfully, Sorbello’s clients also have a unique appreciation for the outdoors as well, or else they would not be embarking upon the journey to improve their property and create spaces surrounded by nature to be enjoyed with their friends and family.

Sorbello emphasizes the importance of first impressions when he says, “More and more people realize that their landscaping is an extension of their home and a signature of who they are and how they live.” His full service landscaping company has been transforming homeowners’ exteriors across the Cape and Islands with their considerable craftsmanship in hardscapes such as patios, walkways and pool decking; mature plantings and screening; and recreational areas—all against a lush and engaging backdrop of flowers, evergreens, shrubs and grasses.

A fully developed landscape plan does not have to translate to additional and intensive household responsibilities. “Many of our clients ask us to create a plan that is considered low-maintenance because they want to enjoy other activities during the warm months on the Cape,” Sorbello explains. “But we also have plenty of clients who want to fully take part in their landscape; whether that means that gardening is their passion, or they want to be involved in growing organic vegetables for their family, or even the finite and Zen experience of maintaining something like a bonsai or a rose garden. However, what they want most is to be able to enjoy their backyard, and that is what we create for them.”

A recent foray inside for Sorbello has taken form in a new division of his business entitled “The Living Room Cape Cod.” Homeowners and businesses are expressing their commitment to green living things with interior wall spaces that are conceived, installed and maintained by Sorbello’s talented crew. “People are really embracing the entire concept,” Sorbello says. “They love the creativity, but mostly they love that they can bring the same elements they enjoy outside into their home year round.”

For Al Sorbello and his team, the adage that it is not work if you love it, could not be more perfectly demonstrated. Sorbello has embraced the outdoors, put down roots, and carefully tended the beauty of possibility that makes this region so special.
