The Farmers Table

In October of 2017, mother-daughter duo Lynn and Olivia Tripp opened The Farmers Table to bring farm-to-table freshness to Plymouth. While opening a café wasn’t always the goal, the Tripps knew that they had found something special with their space in Plymouth. “As soon as we saw the space, we knew that it would be called The Farmers Table,” explains Olivia.

With locally sourced produce in the salads and breakfast sandwiches and ethically grown and produced coffee served daily, guests at The Farmers Table can feel good about what they’re putting into their bodies, and know that they are doing a small part to help the planet. “Sustainability means something different to everybody. For us, it means being good stewards of the planet. It means being able to provide food for the Earth without harming it,” says Olivia.

Both women have a background in food: Lynn, an associate professor of food science, and Olivia, a culinary nutrition graduate, both at Johnson & Wales University. With The Farmers Table, the Tripps set out to create a community centered around healthy, fresh food. “We always try to start with the fresh ingredients and build our menu items from there.  It takes a little more time and preparation, but in the end it is worth it,” says Olivia.

The Farmers Table specializes in hearty, healthy breakfasts and lunches, with a special weekend brunch menu featuring staples like mimosas and bloody marys. The Farmers Table also provides popular dishes like the ever-photographable smoothie and açai bowls and the Instagram-ready avocado toast. “Sourcing what is seasonally available helps guide us in menu creation, and we love to support local farmers,” explains Olivia. “We do our best to use local whenever possible.”

With a catering company to boot, the Tripp women make it easy for you to bring the farm-to-table movement to any celebration. In Plymouth the café has become a place for friends, families and strangers to gather and experience food, dining and nutrition at a place unlike anything else in the area. “We love being able to come up with new ideas and put them into action,” says Olivia. “The farm-to-table aspect helps us to plan our menus for not only the café, but for our catering as well. So every menu and event can be unique.”
